Germany's Certified Organic Logo
All of our products are certified organic under German law.
The Bio (organic) seal is a registered trademark, safeguarded by the Eco Labelling Act (Öko-Kennzeichengesetz - only available in German) and the Eco Labelling Regulation (Öko-Kennzeichenverordnung - only available in German). Agricultural produce that comes under the EU Organic Farming Regulation, has not been processed and is intended for human consumption, may be labelled with the Bio seal. For processed agricultural produce at least 95 percent of the agricultural ingredients must come from organic farming. The other ingredients of agricultural origin must be listed in Annex VI Part C of the EU Organic Farming Regulation.
Nine years have passed since the German hexagonal organic seal was established as a nationwide uniform symbol for products from organic farming. Attractiveness and popularity of the Bio seal continues unabated. The attractiveness of the national organic label, is unparalleled among companies in the organic sector. This is due to its high degree of popularity with consumers. According to a survey by the Nürnberg market research company, Design & Analysis, the Bio seal is the best known organic label among German consumers. More than 87 percent of Germans are familiar with the hexagonal seal. Consumer confidence in the Bio symbol is solid. The Bio seal represents the controlled generation and production of organic goods. The organic label in conjunction with oversight by federal authorities is required in order to promote consumer confidence. It is also an important tool for businesses that hope to create confidence among buyers.
As of December 31, 2010, there were 3,803 companies registered and authorized to use the Bio seal, with a total of 61,744 products. German companies register on average 16 organic products.
Use of the Bio seal is voluntary and free of charge. Suppliers do not have to renounce their brand names or other organic labels. Anyone intending to use the Bio seal must notify the Bio-Siegel Information Center prior to the first use. Notification must be conducted in line with the Eco Labelling Regulation. (More information).
